Heart Saver & First Aird Course

An 8-hour course designed for anyone wanting to learn First Aid, Adult, Child or Infant CPR and AED operations on Adults and children. This Heartsaver First Aid Course consists of 6 sections. The CPR/AED section is optional, but highly recommended. The cost is $75 per student and is scheduled by request only with no less than 10 students. *The student must specify if he/she does not want the CPR/AED section at time of registration. The cost is $60 if requesting class without the CPR/AED section per student.

General Principles

The General Principles covers the following:

  • A definition of First Aid
  • Potential liability and responsibility of the first aid rescuer
  • The contents of First Aid kit
  • Expected first aid provider behavior
  • Safety for the victim and rescuer
  • Potential Blood borne pathogens
  • AHA Chair of Survival
  • Assessing the victim
  • Post emergency actions

Medical Emergencies

The Medical Emergencies focuses on

  • Breathing problems
    • Choking
    • Bad allergic reactions
  • Chest pains and heart attack
  • Fainting
  • Diabetes
  • Stroke
  • Seizures

Injury Emergencies

  • Bleeding
  • Head and possible spinal injury
  • Injury to bones, joints, and muscles

CPR / AED Section

To tailor the course to the needs of participants, it is acceptable for the instructors to change the course by substituting or adding other AHA courses for the CPR / AED needs.

Length of Course

The length of the Heartsaver/First Aid Course depends on if the CPR/AED section is selected.

  • Mouth to mask breathing
  • CPR / AED operation and skill practice

Course Completion Requirements

  • Course participation
  • Multiple choice written exam with a minimum score of 84%
  • Proficient Manikin practice
