Scope of Work

Drainage analysis of potential diversion of approximately 460 acres of drainage area from Magnolia Bayou and Borden’s Gully into Dickinson Bayou. Purchase land and construct a new detention pond, south of FM 517, to control flow rates into Dickinson Bayou.

Project Status as of March 2021

GO Bond project; preliminary report complete as project RE1803H (Reinvestment program); City Engineer held work session with Council in January and March 2021 with details from study and options for this project and determine path forward. Staff presented details on project construction and benefits of delaying based on above schedule during Jan 26, 2021 workshop – decisions still TBD regarding path forward – anticipating additional Council workshop in March 2021.

Original Schedule

The original schedule, as of September 2019, shows design programmed in quarter 1 of 2020 through quarter 3 of 2020 for Magnolia Bayou Diversion Channel to Dickinson Bayou and Detention Pond. Land acquisition is programmed for quarter 4 of 2021 through quarter 3 of 2022. Permitting phase programmed for quarter 4 of 2020 through quarter 3 of 2021. Construction bidding is scheduled for quarter 3 of 2022 with construction following through quarter 4 of 2023. Construction time is an estimate as each bid is awarded based on cost and time submitted by the contractor.

Current Schedule

The current schedule, as of March 2021, for the Magnolia Bayou Diversion Channel to Dickinson Bayou and Detention Pond project shows feasibility study from quarter 3 & 4 of 2019. Design is programmed for quarter 2 of 2021 through quarter 2 of 2022. Permitting scheduled from quarter 3 of 2022 through quarter 2 of 2023. Construction bidding is in programmed for quarter 3 of 2023. Construction is programmed for quarter 4 of 2023 through quarter 3 of 2024. Construction time is an estimate as each bid is awarded based on cost and time submitted by the contractor.
