Scope of work: Construct the extension of Walker Street from Texas Avenue east to FM 270 as a two-lane collector with six-foot sidewalks.

Project Canceled

Project Status as of January 2022

GO Bond Project. This project was programmed in CIP to begin design in FY2022 due to debt capacity. The City Manager committed to meet with neighborhood residents prior to this project moving forward. A public meeting was held on November 17, 2021. Due to public input, City Council voted on January 11, 2022 to remove the Walker Street Extension (from Texas Ave. to FM270) project from the May 2019 GO Bond project list and from the FY2022-2026 Capital Improvement Plan.

Original Schedule

The original schedule, as of September 2019, has the design phase of the Walker St. Extension Project planned in 2022, quarters 1, 2, 3 and 4. Land acquisition is scheduled to begin quarter 3 of 2022 through quarter 2 of 2023. Construction bidding is scheduled for quarter 3 of 2023 with construction following beginning in quarter 4 of 2023 for a year. Construction time is an estimate as each bid is awarded based on cost and time submitted by the contractor.

Current Schedule

The current schedule, as of January 2022, shows the design phase of the Walker St. Extension Project beginning in quarter 1 of 2022 and lasting through quarter 2 of 2023. Land acquisition is scheduled to begin quarter 3 of 2022 through quarter 2 of 2023. Construction bidding is scheduled for quarter 3 of 2023 with construction following and beginning in quarter 4 of 2023 for a year. However, this project has been cancelled as of January 2022 and removed from the May 2019 GO Bond project list and from the FY2022-2026 Capital Improvement Plan.
