Signs
For Sign Construction or Repairs
The business owner or the general contractor needs to fill out a Building Permit Application (PDF) form available at the Building Department or online. If the project requires a new electric service, the licensed electrician (registered to do work in the city) must sign on to the permit along with information on the equipment to be installed.
Please see the list below of required documents to be submitted with the sign application. For more detailed information on sign requirements, please refer to Section 8 of the UDC (PDF) of the city ordinance and the 2018 Thoroughfare Map (PDF) for Right-of-Way designation.
New Sign Construction, Required Documentation
The owner or general contractor is required to submit the following documents for plan review and approval. permit application
- All plans must be compliant with the City of League Code adopted codes, including the ultimate design wind speed in addition to TDI requirements. (The City has adopted the 2015 I-Codes and NEC. Provided the ultimate design wind speed in mph)
- All new permit applications should be submitted online through League City Development Self Service Site (CSS).
- Attach documents in 1 combined pdf file that is not locked or password protected.
The following should be provided for each type of sign permit.
Freestanding Signs:
- Provide a scaled and dimensioned site plan showing with the location of the proposed sign
- Provide a rendering of the proposed sign
- Provide an engineered sealed scaled and dimensioned drawing indicating the height, length, area, and width of the proposed sign
- Provide the type of sign (monument or pylon)
- Provide the length of frontage along the roadway on which you are placing the sign.
- Provide information on whether the sign has internal or external lighting
Wall Signs:
- Provide the location of the proposed sign clearly indicating where on the wall it will be placed
- Provide a rendering of the proposed sign
- Provide an engineered sealed scaled and dimensioned drawing indicating the height, length, area, and width of the proposed sign
- Provide information on whether the sign has internal or external lighting
- Provide the length of business frontage (length of occupied tenant space along wall)
Banners:
- Provide the location of the proposed sign and whether it will be placed on the wall or between two stakes
- Provide a rendering of the proposed sign
- Provide the height, length, area, and width of the proposed sign
- Provide the material of the sign (vinyl)
- Provide the length of time you are wishing to place the sign on the property
