[ARCHIVED] Air Quality Update from Barge Collision

ship

League City, Galveston County, and various federal and state agencies are continuing to monitor air quality levels as a result of yesterday’s barge collision and chemical spill. The Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health is conducting around the clock air monitoring in the communities west of the bay, including League City.  Air monitoring results are being published on the command agency’s response website at www.bayport-response.com.  At this time, no readings have been recorded
above actionable levels.

A 24/7 air monitoring hotline has been established by the Bayport Channel Collision Response team, which is the commanding agency over this incident. It is NOT a city hotline. The call volume is reported to be extremely high and there is no voicemail set up, so please be patient and call back until you get an operator. The hotline number is 281-757-3017.

Members of the community who feel they may require medical attention should still call 911.

A 24/7 claims hotline is available at: 1-800-241-9010

League City is NOT the commanding agency over this regional incident, but we will continue to communicate information to our residents provided to us by the commanding agency. Please check our Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/Leaguecitytexas and www.Twitter.com/Leaguecitytx for the latest information.

The U.S. Coast Guard and other commanding agencies over the incident gave a press conference on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. To watch a replay of the press conference, go to link below provided courtesy of KHOU Channel 11.
