It’s the start of a new year, and while you’re making resolutions, why not resolve to explore your city a little more? From intriguing local history to exciting outdoor adventures, there is so much to do in League City. Read our activity checklist and see how many of these items you can complete by the end of 2020.
Visit a Museum
League City is home to two museums—the Butler Longhorn Museum and the West Bay Common School Children’s Museum. Find some time to visit these museums in 2020 and learn more about the fascinating history of League City, and what life was like for League City residents in the 19th century. Get Out on the Water
You may have spent time fishing along Clear Creek, but have you really explored it? Make time in 2020 to rent (or purchase) a kayak and paddle your way along the Clear Creek Paddle Trail. It’s a great way to explore nature, and there’s plenty of wildlife to see. Not to mention, it’s great exercise! Help Clean the Creek
Clear Creek runs the entire northern border of League City, providing abundant recreational opportunities. To keep our creek clean and in good condition for locals and visitors, a group of League City residents established an annual creek cleanup. This year is the 22nd annual Clear Creek Cleanup event and will run every Saturday and Sunday from Jan. 11 to Feb. 8. Find out more about the event, including where to meet, at clearcreekcleanup.com.

Discover League City’s Unique Coastal Habitat
Texas Master Naturalist, Kristine Rivers, offers a free program every second Saturday of the month called “Nature with Kristine.” Ranging from nature walks to crafting projects (like building your own bird feeder), you’ll learn about the unique animals and habitat around us. Check out our events calendar for monthly topics, and plan to attend one class (or more) in 2020.
Stop by Helen Hall Library
If you haven’t been by Helen Hall Library in a while, make sure you visit in 2020. The library offers lots of fun, educational activities for all ages. For adults looking to get involved, consider joining one of the monthly book clubs hosted by the library. Learn more about each one and pick the group that suits you best. Adults can also participate in writing programs, computer classes, and more. Teens, tweens, and younger children have plenty of events and programs to choose from every month, ranging from storytime and LEGO building to teen game nights and interactive murder mystery events. Attend the Annual Music Fest and BBQ Cook Off in Early May
Every May musicians and chefs converge in League City for a flavorful celebration of food and music. Hosted by the League City Lions Club as a fundraiser for local charities, this popular event draws thousands of music and food lovers, and dozens of teams participate in the cook off, with entries in chicken, ribs, brisket, and chili categories. Add this exciting, family-friendly event to your 2020 calendar.
Volunteer
The selfless volunteers who invest their time in our community are a huge reason why League City is a great place to live. Whether it’s offering your time to assist at the animal shelter, coaching kids through our Parks and Recreation programs, or spending a few hours serving at Helen Hall Library, your contributions will make an impact. Expand your Mind
League City offers a free 10-week course called League City Citizen University, open to all League City residents and business owners over the age of 18. This course is designed to provide further insight into how the city works and introduces students to a variety of City staff. There are two courses offered each year, one in the Spring and one in Fall. The first course of 2020 begins in March, and will be held Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sign up for one of these courses this year, and learn more about the city you call home.
