The Helen Hall Library building remains closed as work continues to repair the first floor following an overnight water leak December 18, which dumped more than 650 gallons of water into the facility and caused extensive damage.
All library programming is currently canceled and is expected to resume the week of January 13. The library building is expected to reopen the week of January 13.
Hold requests continue to be fulfilled and library staff members are offering curbside assistance and checkout services outside of the building from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week of January 6.
Books can be returned to the outside book drop. Fines for late returns are being waived until the building is fully operational.
Insurance adjusters are still calculating the dollar amount of the damage. Luckily, damage from the leak was limited the east side of the building and did not impact any shelves or books. However, library staff members have had to move all of the library’s book collection, which consists of over 200,00 items, to the children’s section on the west side of the building, which wasn’t flooded,
Most of the carpet and drywall on the east side of the first floor is currently being replaced and once complete, staff will need to move the books back and place them in order.
