On Monday, April 27, the Galveston County Health District reported seven new positive COVID-19 cases in Galveston County residents. This brings the county’s case total to 548.
GCHD is reporting two additional deaths.
- A female, age range 81-90, passed away April 23. She had pre-existing medical conditions.
- A female, age range 71-80, passed away April 26. She had pre-existing medical conditions.
Of the county’s 548 cases, 198 are tied to long-term care facilities. This count includes residents and employees. Cities that have seen a large number of cases tied to long-term care facilities are noted on our daily case update graphic. Twenty-one of the 24 deaths reported to date by the health district are related to long-term care facilities in Galveston County.


On April 27, the health district tested a total of 209 people (87 in League City and 122 in Texas City) through its free COVID-19 drive-thru testing sites. To date, 3,358 tests have been performed with 56 positive and 3,008 negative results reported back to the health district. All other results are currently pending. Testing is not limited to just Galveston County residents, but only county residents who tested positive for COVID-19 will be included in the health district’s daily case update.
This week, the health district will offer free COVID-19 testing in Texas City Monday-Friday, in League City Monday-Wednesday and in Galveston on Thursday and Friday.
To date, 15,524 Galveston County residents have been tested. This number does not include Galveston County residents who may have been tested outside the county.
