On Friday, May 8, the Galveston County Health District reported four new positive COVID-19 cases in Galveston County residents. This brings the county’s case total to 676.
Please note there is a backlog of pending test results to be reported to the health district. This is more than likely the reason for today’s low new case count.
There are 3 additional recoveries, bringing that total to 397.
On additional death is being reported:
- A female, age range 91-plus, passed away May 8. She had pre-existing medical conditions.
Of the county’s 676 cases, 254 are tied to long-term care facilities. This count includes residents and employees. Cities that have seen a large number of cases tied to long-term care facilities are noted on our daily case update graphic. Twenty-six of the 29 deaths reported to date by the health district are related to long-term care facilities in Galveston County.
Today, the health district tested 166 people (122 in Texas City and 44 in Crystal Beach) through its free COVID-19 drive-thru testing sites. To date, 5,006 tests have been performed with 84 positive and 4,129 negative results reported back to the health district. All other results are currently pending. To date, 20,118 Galveston County residents have been tested.
