[ARCHIVED] City Providing Online Videos, Daily Challenges, and Learning Resources

Kids having fun learning on their computer

Getting a little stir crazy working from home? Having a hard time keeping the kids from complaining that they are bored all the time?  Staff from League City’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Helen Hall Library are providing a variety of online learning and entertainment opportunities for League City residents as a way to maintain social distancing.

Parks and Recreation

Although Hometown Heroes is closed and all programming has been canceled until March 30, Parks and Recreation staff members are working behind the scenes to create daily videos and virtual classes on the Parks and Recreation Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/leaguecityparksandrec/.

“During this time of social distancing, and with a large amount of kids and families at home, we want to let people know that we are still here for them,”  said Kenny Walsh, League City’s Parks and Recreation Superintendent.

Every day at 11:30, a new “how-to” or “daily challenge” video will be posted or streamed live. Topics will include everything from guitar lessons and hair braiding to yoga, fitness, and even scavenger hunts. If there are other classes you would like to see, email Katrina.hersh@leaguecitytx.gov. The team is also planning a virtual egg hunt on April 5 to take the place of the canceled “League City Egg Scramble”. Stay tuned for more details.

Hometown Heroes staff are also maintaining a “Laughter Line” Monday through Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. If you need a laugh, call 281-554-1195, and staff will tell you a joke.

Helen Hall Library

Even though the Helen Hall Library is closing its doors until further notice starting at 6 p.m. on March 19, staff members want to remind library card holders that they have access to thousands of eBooks at this link https://helenhall.libguides.com/c.php?g=822825&p=5873551

There is also a variety of free, online learning opportunities for children to access on the library’s website, including online story times and educational resources to help families have fun and continue learning, while staying home. To access the resources and take part in the “stay at home challenge” go to this link https://helenhall.libguides.com/c.php?g=932760&p=7346604&fbclid=IwAR2kpwBjcy1dB-zwdB1-ZmFL58U9Qyg3h8O0YWiVO2EyR2Q3VWE6YoVO-E0.
