Because of rainy weather expected all day Saturday, League City's annual tree lighting has been moved to Sunday, November 29, at 6 p.m. at League Park. Characters from the Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theatre's Nutcracker ballet will join League City staff to officially light the League City holiday tree.
The City’s annual tree lighting is moving from the front of the Helen Hall Library to League Park in order provide for more social distancing and enhanced safety. Masks will be required to attend.
The City’s Convention and Visitors Bureau has partnered with the Parks and Recreation Department to purchase a 20 foot artificial tree that the City will be adding onto every year—so eventually the tree will be more than 50 feet. Members of the League City Garden Club are decorating the 64 branches of the tree with more than 600 ornaments.
Staff will be handing out FREE League City 2020 commemorative holiday ornaments and serving hot chocolate. They also will be accepting new, unwrapped toys on behalf of Interfaith Caring Ministries. The toys will be distributed to families in need in League City.
