Due to current regional and area wide water system demand associated with the on-going weather event, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of League City public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc. Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).
The boil water notice is expected to last until next week. Once lifted, the City will notify residents here on the City's website and on the City's social media channels.
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
Public water systems are required to maintain water pressure above 20 psi (normal system pressure is between 60 and 65 psi) and are required to issue a boil water notice if it goes below this level due to the potential for biological contaminants in the water.
