[ARCHIVED] New Eastbound Lane Configuration Coming To Five Corners

street resurface

As part of a TxDOT street maintenance project to resurface FM 518 (Main Street) from I-45 east to FM 2094, mill and overlay work will begin May 26 at the intersection of Five Corners. In addition to the street resurfacing, crews will be adding new curbs, repainting street markings, and will be reconfiguring the left turn lane eastbound on FM 518 to access northbound 270. The reconfiguration will extend the turn lane, which will increase vehicle capacity, and ultimately improve congestion and safety by allowing drivers to use a traffic signal instead of crossing an uncontrolled section of roadway.

However, the turn lane extension will result in a permanent lane re-configuration that will impact drivers trying to access the Kroger shopping center off Egret Bay Blvd. When the project is completed, drivers traveling westbound on FM 518 will need to turn left onto FM 270 (Egret Bay Blvd) at the traffic signal and then use the driveways off Egret Bay Blvd to access Kroger, Chase Bank, Taco Bell, and the other businesses located in the area.

The mill overlay and lane extension work are expected to be complete in the next two weeks, so drivers should be cautious and aware when approaching the Five corners intersection, particularly if they are trying to access the Kroger shopping area.
