New Year, New You: Free Classes & Activities in January

It’s the start of a new year, and League City is hosting a variety of free activities and events. From sports and fitness classes to creative hobbies, take one class or several. You may just discover a new favorite pastime! No need to register, just show up and have a great time!

Hobby Fair

January 21, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
League City Community Center, 400 S. Kansas
To explore everything at once, check out our Hobby Fair on Saturday, January 21. Instructors from Parks and Recreation and the Library will have booths and information about many of the classes and activities they offer throughout the year.

Parks & Rec Free Classes & Activities


January 12 from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m. at Hometown Heroes Park 
Open to all Ages 
Zumba is a fitness program that involves cardio and Latin-inspired dance. It is high energy and if you love dancing you will love this workout.  


January 26 from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at Hometown Heroes Park 
Open to all Ages 
Pilatai is a combination of Pilates and Tai chi to balance and strengthen the body. It is a great work out perfect for those looking for something lower impact.  

Taste of Code Ninjas (Ages 6-12)

January 28 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Community Center 
Students will learn the core concepts of coding, robotics, and computer science through a variety of fun STEM activities. 

Power Yoga (Ages 18+) 

January 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Community Center   
An empowering version of yoga that focuses on building strength and flexibility with the use of dynamic flow and high-impact poses. 

Tennis (Ages 5-15) 

January 28 
10U (Ages 5-10) from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.  
15U (Ages 11-15) from 12 to 1 p.m.  
Year-round tennis lessons provided by Bay Area Racquet Club at Rustic Oaks courts.  

Fencing  (Ages 6+) 

January 29 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Community Center
Step outside your comfort zone with a fencing class!

Library Free Classes & Activities

Walk with a Librarian

Every Thursday morning from January 12 through March 2
10 to 10:30 a.m. at Helen Hall Library

Open to all Ages
Meet up with library staff to walk around the Walker Municipal Complex. Two laps equals 1.5 miles and will take about 30 minutes.

Board Game Club for Adults

January 13 from 3 to 6 p.m.

For Adults
Try your luck on Friday the 13th! Have fun with fellow adults playing board games like Ticket to Ride, Splendor, Parks, and Monopoly. 

Sewing and Sipping

January 14 from 1 to 4 p.m.

For Adults 21+
Learning to sew is the first step to creating a wardrobe that reflects your unique style.  Show the world who you really are! Learn sewing machine basics and create a tote bag to take home.

 Vision Boards & Vibes

January 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

For Adults 21+
Get Inspired!  Come and learn how to create your own vision board with your dreams and goals using Canva.  Wine will also be served. 

Galveston Oyster Shell Art

February 11 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Helen Hall Library Susan Mathews Memorial Theater
For Teens & Adults
Learn how to make beautiful decorative Oyster shells that you can use as a jewelry tray, wedding place cards holders, trinkets and much more.

Managing Your Crazy Self® Personal Development Workshops

For ages 18+
Learn how to manage your thoughts and emotions to reduce stress, anxiety, and fears and to improve relationships. The MYS system is simple, educational, and empowering, and is effective for individuals, couples, teachers, counselors, and more.
