City Staff & Texas Master Naturalists Clear Invasive Species at Dick Benoit Prairie Preserve
On Wednesday, April 26, employees from the Public Works and Parks departments worked with the Galveston Bay Area Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists to clear invasive species at the Dick Benoit Prairie Preserve. The Master Naturalists also spent time identifying plant species on the prairie. Their findings will be logged and then entered into the iNaturalist app to share with the public. To-date, the group has logged over 200 species of plants in the prairie. This rich plant diversity helped the preserve become a Certified Texas Native Prairie late last year.
