At their May 9 meeting, League City Council members unanimously supported a resolution to rename a portion of FM 517 between I-45 and SH 35 as the Ken Clark Memorial Highway. Clark, who served as a Galveston County Commissioner for nearly 25 years, passed away in 2022. The longest-serving Galveston County elected official left behind a legacy of working to improve the county’s transportation and mobility issues. State Senator Mayes Middleton and State Representative Dr. Greg Bonnen are leading the effort to rename the portion of the roadway. A vote is expected in the State Senate on Friday, May 12.
“I am glad that our representatives in Austin spearheaded this idea,” said League City Mayor Nick Long. “I think it is an appropriate road to name after him. Nobody really did more for transportation in this county than Ken Clark did in the last 20 years."
