Community Garden at Hometown Heroes
League City has a community garden at Hometown Heroes Park. About a year ago, a group who calls themselves the “Guardians of the Garden” noticed there was a space for a community garden, but that the beds were empty. They enlisted the help of the Senior’s Foundation and the League City Garden Club for advice and plant donations.
Now the garden has a pollinator bed with native wildflowers, an edible bed with squash, berries, tomatoes, and sunflowers, and even a dedicated bed for Hewitt’s Heroes to tend to.
Anyone in the community is allowed to help weed the garden, or take ripe vegetables.
In the future, the “Guardians of the Garden” would like to host work days at the garden and even cooking classes at Hometown Heroes Park.
