The past week has brought excessive heat warnings to League City. Firefighters are especially vulnerable during these times due to the heat conditions they normally work under multiplied by the early summer. Monday around noon fire units from League City and Webster responded to a house fire in the 1800 block of Lanier Dr. These fire units quickly brought the fire under control and contained it to one room and back exterior wall at the electric junction box. Firefighters were working under heat emergency conditions and had to take extra precautions to protect firefighters with increased hydration and cooling techniques. No firefighters were injured at the fire. Also, of note the first arriving LCPD officer used his handheld fire extinguisher to control the fire at the electrical box.

HVAC work was being done at the time the fire started. Working smoke detectors in the residence alerted the occupants to the fire and they evacuated. One occupant suffered some minor smoke inhalation and was evaluated by EMS on the scene. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating and requested assistance from the City’s Building Department to consult on repairs that would be needed to restore the home’s electrical system based on the extensive damage to it. Two engines, one from League City and one from Webster, responded with an ambulance and the Rehab truck. Friendswood, Nassau Bay, and Santa Fe were cancelled due to the rapid work done by on scene firefighters.
