In addition to the nearly 650 dedicated employees that serve the City of League City, there are many others who volunteer their time at a City facility or with a City program as a way to engage and make a difference in our community. Each year, the City recognizes two of these individuals with special awards named after two legacy volunteers that served our City.
Art Hewitt Volunteer Spirit Award
This award is named after Art Hewitt who dedicated 60 years of his life to the League City community by serving as a volunteer firefighter and by inspiring countless others. The City honors Hewitt and keeps his “volunteer spirit ” alive by honoring an individual that shares his passion for volunteerism.

Steve Jones Inspiration Award
Previously known as the “Above and Beyond” award, the name was changed this year to honor the memory of Steve Jones, a longtime page at the Helen Hall Library who served as the library’s official greeter at all events. Despite dealing with health issues and other challenges, Steve enlightened and uplifted everyone he met, proving every individual has the power to inspire others and make a positive impact on the world around them.

Nominees for both awards do not need to live or work in League City but must have made a significant contribution by volunteering time and service to a City related cause or project. Winners will be honored and recognized during a City Council meeting in October.
