The Public Works Department is made up of various sub-departments including Fleet, Line Repair, Streets/Stormwater and Traffic, Wastewater, and Water. Each week, over 100 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.

Timing Adjustments on New Traffic Signals on W. League City Parkway
Public Works, Traffic & Transportation Department, has received multiple requests from citizens regarding signal timing at the newly installed traffic signals on League City Parkway at the intersections of Bay Area Blvd, Magnolia Meadows, and Landing Blvd. When the traffic signals were activated, new coordination timings were programmed to sync all traffic signals along League City Parkway. With these coordination timings in place, it causes longer wait times on the side streets. Because the traffic is currently very light the wait times can feel extra-long.
Staff is monitoring the timings for the start of the school year because the current traffic patterns will soon change, significantly. After 2 – 3 weeks of observations, timing changes may be adjusted to help with these delays. We are working as quickly as possible to balance the signal timing so residents can get to their destination as quickly as possible.
Disk Filters Inspections at Southwest Water Reclamation Facility
Operators at the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility perform regular inspections and periodic cleaning on process equipment throughout the facility. Tertiary disk filters are inspected for torn filter panels, clogged spray nozzles, proper rotation, and proper backwash performance. These inspections assist in maintaining treatment process performance in an optimal state to ensure regulatory compliance.
Manhole Concrete Repairs
With the continued lack of rain and extreme heat, not only are the water leaks picking up, but we are also seeing an increase of concrete buckling at various manholes throughout the City. This can be caused by a combination of the ground shrinking and prolonged heat, causing the concrete to expand and buckle. This can create trip hazards that require crews to investigate and scheduled the needed repairs. To report any issues regarding manholes, call 281-554-1390.
Parking a Running Vehicle on Grass Could Spark a Fire
With the severe heat and lack of rain the ground is ripe for fire hazards. One could be caused by parking on or near grass as the underside of your vehicle’s exhaust, especially where the exhaust pipe bends and comes out from under the engine can be extremely hot allowing the dry grass to catch on fire. Catalytic converters or exhaust emission controllers can overheat and are known to spark fires.

Earwigs are:
- Flat-bodied elongated dark brown-black insects that grow from 1/4 to 1 1/4 inches in length
- Pincher-like appendages look menacing but they don’t use them to pinch—used for grasping
- Have chewing mouthparts they use to break down vegetation and eat other insects; rarely a nuisance to humans or plants
