The Public Works Department is made up of various sub-departments including Fleet, Line Repair, Streets/Stormwater and Traffic, Wastewater, and Water. Each week, over 100 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.

36-Inch Transmission Water Line Milestone
Contractors reached a milestone over the weekend when they bored and pulled approximately 3,600 ft of new 36-inch fused PVC water line under Clear Creek and FM 270. This new water line will provide a direct transmission feed from South Hwy 3 Booster Pump Station to the South Shore Harbor Booster Pump Station, enhancing the City’s ability to move water to the east side of the city for improved reliability and redundancy.
This also provides a valuable secondary connection across Clear Creek to help aid in uninterrupted water service to League City residents in the event of a transmission water line break. A total of roughly 8,600 ft of the 17,000 ft of water line have been installed to date.
DEER CROSSING AWARENESS
The Public Works Streets, Stormwater & Traffic Divisions is seeing an increasing number of deer carcasses along League City Roadways. The end of summer and beginning of fall is the start of the mating season. The seasonal behavioral change during this time creates differing movement patterns in the local deer herd, especially during the dawn and dusk.
The increased development in and around League City is pushing deer out of their normal habitat and into other less developed areas. In addition, with more development brings more traffic along the roadways that the deer cross. Therefore, when traveling along less developed areas such as FM 270 North, FM 646, and other green corridors be careful when driving during the dawn and dusk hours of the day.
Vehicle Maintenance During High Summer Temperatures
As the hot summer temperatures continue so does maintenance on your vehicles. Heat temperatures affect your car’s a/c performance, battery voltage and tire pressure. If you are experiencing any of these problems, take your vehicle to a certified auto technician for assistance.
What are Wooly Aphids?
- Fluffy white aphids
- Produce cotton-like webbing that resembles snow when it falls from the trees; if it’s “snowing” in your yard, it’s probably Wooly Aphids
- Like traditional aphids, they have sucking mouthparts that they use to feed on juices of trees and plants
